成也蕭何, 敗也蕭何(성야소하, 패야소하)

성공도 소하에게 달려있고, 실패도 소하에게 달려있다.
출세도 죽음도 다 소하에게 달려있다.
성패 혹은 생사가 모두 한 사람에게 달려있다.
소하가 한신(韓信)을 유방에게 천거하여 대장군이 되게 하고, 후에는 한신이 소하의 계책에 속아 비록 병중에도 불구하고 궁으로 들어가다가 여후(呂后)가 보낸 무사에게 사로잡혀서 결국은 목을 베인 고사에서 유래한다.

In the beginning of the Han Dynasty, Xiao He(蕭何) recommended Han Xin(韓信) become a general, later he helped Empress Lü Zhi(呂雉) to have Han Xin killed. Later, 成也蕭何, 敗也蕭何(성야소하, 패야소하) was used as a metaphor to describe a situation in the success or failure of an endeavor derives from the same person or thing.
